Guitar Improvisation Lessons

If you’re trying to improve your ability to improvise on the guitar, then guitar improvisation lessons are the place to start!

Our goal with this website is to collect a number of guitar lessons that are all geared around improvising, all here in one place.

Improvising on the guitar isn’t necessarily something that you’re just born with… it is a skill that can be learned and developed. Once you understand how the scales and the chords work together, you’ll quickly begin to make your own harmonies, riffs, solos and lead lines! One of the best places to start is with the pentatonic minor scale, because when you’re playing that scale in the right key, you literally can’t play a wrong note. Truly magnificent for a beginner at guitar improvising!

Apart from the guitar improvisation lessons you’ll find on this site, the best course we’ve discovered on improvising is RiffNinja’s Guitar Improvising Secrets. You might want to check it out, as he’s got a few free videos at that link that you can learn from as well.

Apart from that, grab your guitar, settle in, and fire up one of our guitar improvisation lessons right now!

You can solo in either G major or E minor; both diatonic and pentatonic. Don’t know the difference? Brush up on your guitar scales!

When you begin to see how the E minor scale flows into the G major scale, especially at the upper end, you’ll see that there’s quite a lot you can do in that area. In terms of improvising on the guitar, G is a tremendous key to start out with.

Improvising in E Pentatonic Minor

Here’s a cool lesson I found on how to improvise in E pentatonic minor.

The E pentatonic minor scale is a great one to learn, and a handy place to start improvising as well, because it is conveniently located close to where you can play a lot of open chords.
